 Welcome to the April issue of Under The Bridge. It's late and there isn't much new stuff to report. We are just knitting things and trying to do a little fund raising so we will have money to purchase yarn so we can knit more.

Leona dropped off some pretty items for us. Personally, I am working on adult scarf #30 and Nancy is about the same.

Our current fundraiser is the 50/50 money board. We also hope to sell tickets on a Mother's Day basket and a Father's Day basket. Stay tuned to our social media sites for updates on those draws. And, if you just want to make a donation.....

Welcome to the March 2024 issue of Under The Bridge. Weather-wise, March is coming in like a lamb. If there is any truth to the adage, it will be going out like a lion.We will keep our fingers crossed because we are all ready for spring here.

Nancy and I finished our first colaborative blanket of 2024, I knit the squares; Nancy crochets an edging around each square and then crochets them all together. The brown squres are bulky highland tweed, thick and no doubt super warm.

We've been working on scarves, too, of course. I have a few done, about 15 I think.

There's a few. Nancy and Leona have a few done as well. The fundraiser is slow going but we've raised about 130 so far. If you'd like to purchase a ticket, they are $10 each. See that snow? Feel that wind? That's winter around these parts. Mind you, it hasn't been this wintry since White Juan back in 2004. Our hearts go out to the unhoused.

Our project continues. We are all knitting the usual items we do. I (Bernie) have 30 junior scarves and 10 adult scarves done, and I've started work on a blanket with Nancy. Nancy herself has 17 adult scarves finished. She has set herself a goal of 50 scarves as have I. All the other girls are hard at work.

I was having a conversation with one of our knitters about the lack of funding we have to purchase not only yarn, but the many other items necessary to successfully complete our project. At our last board meeting, this was  talked about and our plan is to conduct a few fundraisers to help with that. The first is already underway.

It is a 50/50 money board. 100 numbered squares. $10 a square. We take half, the winner gets the other half. We're hoping to sell all the squares. You can email us with a request for numbers. Welcome to 2024. Wasn't much to tell you in the first few days of the month, but we're almost into mid-January so I thought it best to do this month's update. First of all, there have been changes to our Board of Directors. We would like to welcome Christine Borgel to the Last House on the Block Society family. Christine was one of our drivers during 2023.

I had set myself some goals in the knitting department. The first goal was to knit at least 30 children's scarves. I finished the last one yesterday. My secondary goal is to knit at least 50 adult scarves. I started the first one today. Nancy has about ten done as well as some baby blankets that she makes each year. Our other knitters are also hard at work.

December - Santa Under The Bridge 2023

Welcome to the December issue of Under the Bridge, the official newsletter for Last House on the Block Society and its project Santa Under The Bridge. This issue  is a few days later than usual and that was on purpose. We wanted to wait until we had made the deliveries for our 2023 project. We have made them all except one place that we have already been to and will be returning for a second facility.

We started on Friday December 1st with Supportive Housing for Young Mothers. We gave them knitted baby blankets and knitted dolls. Our friend Sarah helped us get there that day.

Later that same day, two of my great-nieces, Felicia and Delainy, accompanied us to Brunswick Street Mission,

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission

and Stepping Stone

On Saturday December 2nd we were able to enlist our friend Christine to help us with our donations to Aerobics First for their Fit It Forward project,

and to Alcare Place

 On Monday, December 4, we had an unexpected winter storm well we knew about it a few days in advance but we really didn't expect it to be so bad. We made no deliveries that day. We made up for it on Tuesday. in the morning, Board member and knitter, Leona and her husband Gerald took us to Caitlan's Place, a facility of Coverdale Justice Society. This was our third year going there,

Coverdale has a new facility, Honour House, for females and gender diverse individuals experiencing homelessness, addictions, and mental illness aged 18-24. We will be donating to them next week.

Leona and Gerald also brought us to Marguerite Centre

and to Herring Cove Apts, a facility of Shelter Nova Scotia

Tuesday afternoon, Sarah helped us again to make our annual donations to Direction 180,

and also to Laing House

We had three deliveries on Thursday. December 7. Feeding Others Of Dartmouth. Pauline helped us out with that one.

Then, Christine drove us to Bryony House

And, we finished Thursday off with Leona and Gerald taking us to Among Friends Social Club.

On Friday, December 8, one of our knitters (Micheline) took us to 3 places.

November 2023

Welcome to November. We have had our first snowfall, more of a light dusting of snow, really. At Last House on the Block Society, things are starting to come together. We've been gathering the items for our project which begins in a few weeks. Nancy and Bernie did one last afghan blanket together.

As far as scarves go, we might not have as many as usual, but we will have what we have and we will distribute to as many places as we can.

October 2023

Welcome to the October issue of Under The Bridge. The next starts in about 60 days. We are busy getting things ready. Nancy was out of commission for about 2 months with a pinched nerve, but happy to report that she is back in action. We were able to conplete collaboration #5.

We are also working on a few more, should have photos for November. Leona has also been turning out scarves and hats and mittens and she even did us an afghan.
